Frequently asked questions about food safety and quality management advice

When is it best to bring in external advice rather than recruit an in-house quality officer?

External advice is particularly valuable for a specific, time-bound challenge: preparing for a first certification, an audit that did not go as planned, a reorganisation of your quality department, or a peak period for which you cannot (yet) justify a full-time employee. For a permanent, day-to-day operational role, an in-house quality officer is usually the better choice, possibly supplemented by external support at strategic level.

How long does an advisory project take on average?

That varies greatly depending on the question: targeted audit preparation can take from a few weeks to a few months, whereas building a quality management system from scratch to certification quickly takes 6 to 12 months. AMNorman works with a concrete roadmap and interim milestones, so you know in advance what to expect.

Does AMNorman work with a fixed roadmap or fully tailored?

Both: the approach starts from a proven methodology (risk analysis, gap analysis against the target standard, action plan, implementation, internal audit, follow-up), but is tailored to each company according to its sector, size and the certification scheme it chooses (BRCGS, IFS, FSSC 22000, ISO...).

Is advice a one-off project or an ongoing partnership?

Both are possible. Some clients bring in AMNorman for a one-off, clearly defined project (for example, preparing for a single certification), while others opt for an ongoing partnership in which AMNorman acts as a permanent external partner for the annual follow-up, internal audits and keeping the system up to date.
