The differences between the 2008 and 2015 versions of ISO 9001
ISO 9001 is the best-known and most widely used standard for quality management systems. You are most likely already familiar with this standard. Naturally, standards like this must evolve over time, just like your organisation, and occasionally need an update. So what are the differences between the ISO standard from 2008 and the one from 2015?
What are the differences between the 2008 and 2015 versions of ISO 9001?
The ISO 9001 standard
ISO 9001 is the most important international standard for quality management within an organisation. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) sets standards that are the same across 163 countries.
The ISO 9001 standard is used to assess whether an organisation is able to meet customer requirements, the laws and regulations applicable to the product, and the organisation's own requirements. ISO 9001 can be summarised in three short phrases: say what you do, do what you say, and prove it.
From ISO 9001:2008 to ISO 9001:2015
The biggest change in ISO 9001:2015 is its new structure. There are now 10 clauses instead of the original 8. ISO 9001:2015 also places much greater emphasis on risk management. Your organisation is challenged to think through the risks associated with its activities and to analyse them. Based on this risk analysis, you then decide for yourself what the challenges are in managing your business processes.
Other changes include new terminology and the fact that ISO no longer requires formal procedures and documentation. This saves your organisation a great deal of paperwork.
Transition period
Whenever a new edition of the standard is published, a transition period of 3 years applies. During this time, your organisation can adapt to the new standard. AMNorman and our AMNorman experts can help make this transition run smoothly.
Certification
Certification is always carried out by an independent body, not by ISO itself. This independent body determines whether the quality management within an organisation is compliant with all the requirements of the standard. AMNorman can help your organisation achieve certification through audits, advice or training courses.
